Client: Sauder School of Business Undergraduate Office (UGO)
Every year, about 500 first-year Sauder students enrol in one of the first year business math courses to satisfy their degree requirements. Despite academic support such as instructor’s office hours and university-wide free tutoring services, many commerce students still struggle with these courses. In order to enhance academic student experience, the Sauder Undergraduate Office (UGO) is currently considering to establish Math support services tailored to first year commerce students.
As one of the first clients of Student Experience Research Advisory (SERA), the UGO has requested SERA to conduct a research study and to determine the need for customized Sauder tutoring services. The research project is intended to focus on student’s learning techniques and awareness of the first-year Sauder students about UBC-wide math support services currently offered.
To achieve research objectives of the project, the SERA team will utilize online surveys and personal interviews. Survey invitations will be sent to all Commerce students who completed Business Math courses during the 2009 Winter Session. Student Experience Researchers will also conduct personal interviews with students and Math department faculty to get in-depth feedback.

Client: Robert Peregoodoff, Manager at Sauder’s Learning Technology Services Department
As we continue to move through the digital era, technology is becoming more and more important in society, and this trend is reflected through post-secondary institutions. Here at the Sauder School of Business, we pride ourselves for being among the highest-ranking business schools in Canada. It is crucial to provide our students with the best learning environment possible, and continuously enhance the technology being used here.
The Canaccord Capital Corporation has donated $1.5 Million dollars towards the development of the Canaccord Learning Commons at the Sauder School of Business. In order to use this money effectively, Robert Peregoodoff, Manager at Sauder’s Learning Technology Services Department, has asked the Student Experience Research Advisory (SERA) to gather information to support whether or not the development of a digital media sound room will benefit future students attending Sauder.
This research project is to be divided into two phases. Phase one will be focused on obtaining student opinions regarding the sound room, and phase two will consist of obtaining student suggestions for the components of the digital media centre.

Welcome to the newly launched SERA website. You might ask what SERA stands for. It stands for Student Experience Research Advisory, with the primary purpose of improving and enhancing the Sauder student experience through research studies and investigations. Funded by the Sauder School of Business and the Teaching Learning Enhancement Fund, SERA cooperates and creates lasting connections with the CUS and MBA student societies, the Dean’s Office, and the Undergraduate Office (UGO), as well as other stakeholders to truly bring forth meaningful and positive change to the Sauder community.
A team of 7 students have been hired to manage this project. This is a project by students, for students. In this note, we would love to have students involved with our current research projects. Stay tuned and please keep this website bookmarked for the latest studies available.
